National Red Ribbon Week 2019

Austin Elementary

October 21st-25th

We celebrate National Red Ribbon Week in honor of Enrique Camarena, a fallen DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) Agent, who risked his own life in the battle against illegal drugs. Since 1988, the Red Ribbon has been a symbol used to raise awareness of the destruction caused by illegal drugs in America and to encourage participation among schools and communities in drug prevention activities. Please join us this week in the following themed days to support making healthy choices and being drug free.

Monday, October 21st
**Neighborhood Walk 8:00AM
“RED-Y to Live a Drug Free Life.”
Wear red to help kick off Red Ribbon Week. Bring your homemade poster with you on our campus wide walk around the neighborhood to promote being drug free.

Tuesday, October 22nd
“I’m Wild About Being Drug Free”
Wild and crazy hair day.

Wednesday, October 23rd
“Follow Your Dreams. Don’t Do Drugs.”
It’s pajama day!

Thursday, October 24th
“Your Future Is Bright Without Drugs.”
Dress like what you want to be when you grow up.

Friday, October 25th

Wear your Austin spirit wear, Coppell Cowboys spirit wear, or your favorite team jersey.

Visitors
*Here is the link for parents who will be visiting for an event to sign up on a Google Form. This will allow them to print them in advance. This is differentthan the one for Family Fridays (see below)

*Joining us for Family Fridays? Click the link below: You must have signed up by 12:00 noon, the prior Thursday, so that the office can batch print labels.

Snacks:
This year 5th grade has the latest lunch time, 12:45-1:15. We will be having snack in the morning after Specials, usually around 10:00 am. We are asking that snacks be something your child can eat quickly (within five minutes), dry, no utensils, or containers, and is peanut free.

Good examples: goldfish crackers, blueberries, granola bar, grapes, etc.
Bad examples: chips, fruit cups, cookies, anything with nuts, etc.

Family Fridays:
Families of Austin students are permitted to eat lunch with their child on Fridays only. The cafeteria is arranged with extra seating for you and your child on these days. This is a time for you and your child to have lunch together, so please do not invite other students to sit with you during this time. We will not be having Family Friday the first week of school, but will start September 6th.

Dismissal:
Be sure that if you are picking your child up after school in person, you bring the green pick-up card with you. If you do not have the green card, you will be required to go to the office in order to verify the pick-up arrangement. Thank you for your cooperation in order to keep all students safe.

Background Checks:
Are you interested in helping in the office or classroom at Austin? Are you willing to accompany a group of students on a field trip, serve in our classroom during holiday parties, or help the PTO with events? To be eligible to volunteer on any of the CISD campuses for any of your "yes" responses above, you must complete a Background Check every year. The form must be completed at least a week prior to the volunteer event. It is best to go ahead and fill one out now, just to be safe!
